MISC. COLLECTIBLES & NOVELTIES • DARK SHADOWS

Created by Dan Curtis (1927-2006), Dark Shadows (1966-1971) remains one of the most popular cult television series, second only to Star Trek. This cutting-edge gothic soap opera starred Nancy Barrett, Joan Bennett, Louis Edmonds, Grayson Hall, David Henesy, Alexandra Moltke, Lara Parker, Kathryn Leigh Scott, David Selby, and a host of other stage and television actors who all played numerous roles over the course of the show's five-year run. The series' undisputed star, though, was Jonathan Frid, who portrayed Barnabas Collins, an angst-ridden, two-hundred year old bloodsucking anti-hero. When he wasn't putting the bite on his lovely co-stars, he found time to fight the forces of evil which inevitably plagued his ancestral home of Collinwood, including ghosts, werewolves, witches, patchwork creations, and --of course--other vampires. This program spawned a vast merchandising empire in the last forty years, as well as inspiring two movies, a revival program in 1991, an aborted TV series in 2004, and a recently announced theatrical film featuring Johnny Depp in the role of cult figure Barnabas Collins.
