Although Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950) is best known for his timeless creation of Tarzan, the Ape Man, the prolific pulp writer
has to his credit numerous science fiction and fantasy adventure series which have not been out of print since the 1950s. Of
particular note is his Barsoom saga, featuring John Carter, Warlord of Mars, which is currently under production as a live-action
film from Walt Disney Studios. Also of note is his hollow Earth series, Pellucidar, and his Caspak trilogy, which inspired a series
of films in the 1970s. He has also written sagas similar to the John Carter cycle, with similarly exotic backdrops as Venus and the
Earth's moon. In addition to fantastic literature, Burroughs dabbled in other genres as well, including westerns, jungle adventure,
historical fiction, and hard-boiled mystery.
