Ellery Queen is both a fictional detective and a nom de plume used by co-writers Daniel Nathan (1905–1982) and Manford Lepofsky
(1905–1971), two cousins from Brooklyn. (This pseudonym has also been employed by a number of house writers, including
Richard Deming, Fletcher Flora, Samuel Duff McCoy, Talmage Powell, Charles W. Runyon, John Holbrook Vance and other, less
prolific contributors.) The two co-writers were also responsible for co-founding Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, generally
considered to be one of the most influential detective fiction magazines of the twentieth century. The two award-winning writers
have also edited innumerable anthologies devoted to crime fiction, most of which are considered the best collections of their type.
Nathan and Lepofsky as Ellery Queen are generally considered to be the most important writers of detective fiction next to the progenitor
of the modern mystery novel, Edgar Allan Poe.
