scordatura [skor · du · tur · a ] noun.
An alternative tuning used for the open strings of a stringed instrument.

Formed in December of 2009, Studio Scordatura is a consortium of Pacific Northwest artists, musicians and writers, most of whom seek to push the boundaries of their respective arts and talents. From the purity of free expression to the opportunity to communicate unpopular perspectives on life and pop culture, Studio Scordatura is a vain attempt to further the views of the participants to like-minded individuals who have never quite found acceptance with the status quo.

Currently, the hub of Studio Scordatura is located in Everett, Washington, an old mill town about twenty-five miles north of Seattle which is situated on Port Gardner Bay. Founded circa 1890, Everett is the sixth largest city in Washington State, and has earned something of a bad reputation throughout the years. (The mantra of "The best thing out of Everett is still I-5" is familiar to most the residents.) Everett has become a diverse melting pot, a chaotic dichotomy of jaded urban existence and disconnected provincial living. Due to its schizophrenic façade, Everett is a magnet for social refugees as well as immigrants: the misfit, the outsider, the bohemian, and the odd duck among them. Everett has always had the distinction of being culturally and artistically stifled, yielding an undercurrent of creative energy that rarely bubbles to the surface. Studio Scordatura stands as a futile effort to serve as a safety valve to a handful of frustrated artists who find Everett a tolerable alternative to other cities in the region.
