Before Trashfiend, there was a fanzine with delusions of grandeur and a funny name that no one but no one could get right. (Had it been called either GLICK! or CLICK!, at least 50% of the readers would have gotten it right.) GICK! marked Stigmata's crossover from hand-stapled Xeroxed fanzines to semi-prozines with glossy covers, and although it rarely reached the watershed mark later left by Trashfiend, it quickly obtained a faithful following of desperate trash horror fans. Unfortunately, the scope of the magazine was too broad, it turned out, at least for the editors; unlike Trashfiend, GICK! offered coverge of newer indy fare alongside older obscurities, and the writers' general distate for the newer fare was obvious. The quality of the printing itself sat uneasy as well, thanks to the oft-nonexistent quality control applied by their printers. This was soon rectified when, with the fifth issue, Stigmata took their business to Marrakech Express, with whom they would remain faithful throught publication of Trashfiend and Filthy Habits. Unfortunately, these and other problems eventually spelled out the demise of GICK! With the fifth and last issue, it was obvious that a curtain call was near. In the last issue, just as much space was devoted to irrate editorial ramblings as to film reviews, and articles pertaining to film and comics were suspiciously absent. Suffice it to say, fans of Trashfiend are sure to find these an enjoyable read, as long as they do not expect the selfsame quality reached by Stigmata's flagship book.
